Apple postponed its foldable iPad launch to 2029 or later from the initial 2028 target date, according to Bloomberg. The company faces engineering challenges with the device's weight and its 18-inch display panel, which requires nearly invisible crease technology. Apple collaborates with Samsung Display to resolve technical issues affecting production of the large-format foldable screen. The finished product may retail for approximately $3,900 when it reaches consumers.
The foldable iPhone encountered similar delays stemming from hinge mechanism complications and panel manufacturing constraints. Mizuho analysts reported Apple reduced display panel production targets to 9 million units from 13 million units. The company plans to release iPhone 18 Air, Pro, and Pro Max models in the fall of 2026, while the iPhone 18e and foldable variant arrive in the first quarter of 2027.
