Apple plans to release six iPhone models in 2027 and skip the number 19 to name the series iPhone 20, marking the device's 20th anniversary. Omdia senior researcher Heo Moo-yeol said the company will launch the iPhone 18e and base iPhone 20 in the first half of the year, with premium versions following later. The adjusted release schedule will reduce OLED panel demand by roughly 20 million units, affecting supplier orders.
The strategy shift reflects Apple's effort to compete across multiple price ranges rather than focusing solely on premium devices. Analysts suggest foldable models could help annual panel shipments reach 250 million units. The company may continue producing the Air variant despite cutting production forecasts by one million units because of weak sales.
