The Entertainment Software Association surveyed more than 24,000 players across 21 countries and determined the average gamer reaches 41 years of age. The Power of Play 2025 report demonstrates that 51 percent of players identify as women and 48 percent as men. Smartphones serve as the primary gaming device for 55 percent of respondents, while personal computers and consoles each account for 21 percent of usage.
The study indicates 81 percent of gamers believe playing supports cognitive health and mental sharpness. Stress relief motivates 80 percent of players, and 64 percent report gaming reduces loneliness through social connections. The World Health Organization added gaming disorder to its International Classification of Diseases list, warning that excessive play can cause self-neglect and isolation from responsibilities.
