PS5 update adds serial number lookup in settings

Sony released PlayStation 5 system software version 25.07-12-20-00 on Thursday, adding a feature that displays console and controller serial numbers through the settings menu. Users can find the console serial number by navigating to System, then System Software, then Console Information. Controller serial numbers can be found under Accessories, General, Advanced Settings, and then by selecting View Serial Number for devices connected via USB or Bluetooth. The update simplifies warranty verification and support requests by eliminating the need to physically inspect hardware for identification data.

The software improves system stability and performance across the platform. DualSense Edge wireless controllers received firmware updates to enhance reliability. Sony adjusted screen messages and navigation for better usability. The console downloads and installs the update automatically when powered on.
