A major Amazon Web Services outage on Tuesday disrupted popular platforms such as Alexa, Snapchat, Fortnite and ChatGPT. The failure originated in the US-EAST-1 region, which serves as critical infrastructure for internet operations worldwide. Amazon attributed the problem to a DNS routing error affecting DynamoDB API endpoints, and the company resolved the issue within hours.
The incident revealed significant vulnerabilities in digital infrastructure. Most major technology services depend on AWS, and when one component fails, the effects spread globally across multiple platforms. Amazon confirmed that service operations have returned to normal, but some requests may experience throttling during full recovery.
