The new M5 chipset from Apple brings significant improvements over the M4, despite keeping a 10-core CPU and GPU. The CPU has six performance and four efficiency cores, offering up to 15 percent better multi-threaded performance. The M5 also provides a 30 percent boost in graphics and four times the compute power thanks to the Neural Accelerators in both the CPU and GPU.
Memory bandwidth is increased to 153GB/s, a 30 percent improvement over the M4, and ray tracing performance is up by 45 percent. The Neural Engine remains 16-core but boosts AI tasks with lower power use. The M5 Pro and M5 Max will be released later with new chip designs.
