A 32-year-old mechanic, Mohammad Shukri Ryan, was charged today with the murder of three-year-old Nurzahieyka Zainuddin in Kampung Rampangi, Santubong, earlier this month. He appeared in the Magistrate's Court, where he nodded in understanding but did not enter a plea, as the case is under the High Court's jurisdiction. Mohammad Shukri is accused of killing Nurzahieyka on October 7 at around 7:45 pm. The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or a sentence of 30 to 40 years in prison, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane. The case will be mentioned again on November 21, pending the post-mortem report.
