Apple bans first-gen Vision Pro trade-ins

Apple will not accept first-generation Vision Pro headsets as trade-ins when customers purchase newer products. The company disclosed this policy while announcing in-store availability for its M5 iPad Pro and 14-inch MacBook Pro models. The original Vision Pro launched at $3,500 and received criticism for its limited functionality relative to its price point.

The decision may relate to Apple's strategic shift toward artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses. Reports indicate the tech giant halted development on a second Vision Pro model planned for a 2027 release. Apple reportedly targets a 2026 launch for smart glasses featuring cameras, microphones and speakers powered by an enhanced Siri assistant.

The new M5 Vision Pro starts at $3,499 and offers storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Production has moved from China to Vietnam. The Southeast Asian nation secured favorable trade terms with the Trump administration, helping Apple reduce exposure to geopolitical risks.
