Instagram is rolling out new safety measures to protect teens online by restricting the content they can access to PG-13 standards. Starting this update, teens will automatically be placed in restricted accounts unless a parent allows them to opt out. The new measures will limit exposure to posts with strong language, risky stunts, and harmful behaviors like marijuana paraphernalia.
Teen accounts will now be private by default, and teens won't be able to follow accounts that share adult material or inappropriate links, such as OnlyFans. If they’re already following such accounts, they will lose access to those posts. Meta has also expanded restricted search terms to include words like “alcohol” and “gore,” as well as AI responses unsuitable for teens.
Parents can set up a stricter “limited content” mode for additional control. Meta says these changes aim to make Instagram safer for young users while still supporting age-appropriate interactions.
