Priests and worshippers at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Shahibaug presented more than 1,200 food items to Lord Krishna on Wednesday for Govardhan Puja. The ceremonial display follows the Hindu tradition of offering diverse dishes to begin the year after Diwali. Workers spent 45 days preparing the feast under the direction of chefs and designers who organized items by category and appearance.
More than 1,500 women joined hundreds of volunteers from Ahmedabad who helped with temple duties over the past month. Temple leaders will share the blessed food with visitors, other religious sites, and people who need assistance. An exhibit about Pramukh Swami accompanied the ceremony to showcase efforts promoting Hindu culture worldwide.
The public can view the food arrangement from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The festival honors how Krishna shielded Vrindavan residents and occurs on the first day of the bright fortnight in the Kartik month.
