Borderlands 4 topped September 2025 video game sales in the United States, with sports franchises filling most remaining top five positions, according to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella. The shooter claimed first place for the month and third place among 2025 premium game sales, trailing Monster Hunter Wilds and NBA 2K26. Ghost of Yotei reached fourth place despite launching on October 2, achieving sales figures comparable to its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, which debuted under pandemic lockdown conditions in July 2020.
NBA 2K26 secured second place for September, followed by EA Sports FC 26 in third and Madden NFL 26 in fifth position. Ghost of Yotei ranked 18th among best-selling premium games for 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 led hardware sales for September, while PlayStation 5 finished second and surpassed PlayStation 3 lifetime sales. Total spending across hardware, software and accessories increased 10 percent compared to September 2024.
