Tinashe Pswarayi and associate Tauya Masunda face charges of misappropriating more than $52,000 in rental proceeds from the estate of freedom fighter Edward Munatsireyi Pswarayi. Advocate Caleb Mucheche testified on Wednesday that the defendants created fraudulent trusts to steal rental income between June and November 2014. Prosecutor Polite Chikiwa told the court that Pswarayi and Masunda collected $9,835 in June after the doctor died on June 8, 2014, but failed to report transactions to estate administrators.
The pair allegedly gathered $42,400 in additional rental payments through November without distributing funds to beneficiaries or accounting to the Master of the High Court. Takunda Pswarayi, a beneficiary based in the United Kingdom, discovered the alleged theft after Mucheche received an appointment as executor in December 2014. The estate holds properties in Machipisa, Borrowdale Brooke, Kambuzuma, and Beatrice through Tondori 1 and Tondori 2 trusts. Authorities have recovered none of the missing funds.
